HISTORY:
The Saray, built in the mid-1800s, exemplifies the Ottoman splendor and luxury of the time period.
It was commissioned by Nassib Basha Joumblat of the Joumblat family with the idea of creating a winter retreat in the sun-soaked climes of Sidon.
Every aspect of the Saray's design was carefully crafted to add to its unique characteristics, which are highlighted by its prime location overlooking the sea and the city of Sidon, making it a renowned Lebanese residence.
THE ESTATE:
The gardens, which are magnificently manicured and span 21,000m2, are a sight to behold with the addition of exotic vegetation, flowing water fountains, and stunning royal palm trees gifted to the family by Egypt's former president, Gamal Abdel Nasser.
The Saray's main building boasts the work of the most talented artisans with intricately decorated Florentine architectural details and oriental arcades and galleries.
THE SHAM'AYA CENTRAL HALL:
The exceptional "Sham'aya central hall" is the most striking feature of the Saray, which houses the famous "Fountain of Lions" meticulously carved from one slab of Carrara marble.
It took over a decade and 400 workers to integrate the 18th-century marble and mosaic grand reception room into the Saray, and it's adorned with walls with marble engravings and mosaic inlays.
The expansive gardens and the enchanting atmosphere that envelops them make them an excellent location for events held at the Saray.
